Who we are…
Hi, we are John and Gill your resident hosts at Holmlea. We have been successfully operating Holmlea Guest House, a Lake District bed and breakfast in Bowness on Windermere since February 2006.
Our dream, whilst working in office jobs in Manchester, was to run our own Guest House. We had often thought how lovely it would be living in the Lakes and owning a bed and breakfast. A place where we could live and work from home, be around for the children, escape to the countryside and meet lots of new people. We have visited lots of places to stay in Bowness on Windermere on holiday many times, therefore it was our first choice and we made the decision to move and live life in the Lake District.
In 2005 we set the wheels in motion and starting looking for property in Windermere and the surrounding area. It would mean leaving our friends and family plus moving the children into new schools, but everyone gave us their blessing and we decided to go for it, trusting in whatever happened, it would be right for us.
It wasn’t until February 2006 that we sold our original family home in Sale. Manchester and with our children, then aged 11 and 8, we took possession of Holmlea Guest House in the charming village of Bowness on Windermere. The children were quickly registered at the local schools and with the help of wonderful staff and classmates they settled in very well.
